The “Vynhol Oksamytne” vineyard and winery was established in 1998 in the village of Velvet, within the Bolhrad district of the Odesa region, on the same land where Count Davydov’s vineyard chateau stood 120 years ago.
For more than 15 years, the winery produced wines recognised by many consumers, bottled under the labels of other well-known brands. Since 2017, the company has decided to enter the Ukrainian market with its own brands. In 2018, the company, along with the winemakers of the Yalpug valley, contributed to the establishment of one of the first PDO Yalpug geographical indications in Ukraine for wines made from the Odessa Black and Sukholimansky varieties. Additionally, the producers helped create the PGI of the same name for wines from European grape varieties.
Today, the company owns 550 hectares of vineyards and has partnerships with many local winegrowers, processing grapes from more than 600 hectares of vineyards. By selecting varieties best adapted to our microclimate, the winemakers have gathered a large collection of European and local grape varieties, becoming one of the largest producers of grapes and wines from Muscat, Odesa Black, and Cabernet Sauvignon in Ukraine.
The Odesa Black wine is made by fully fermenting the must from the grapes with the same name, or Odesa Cherny, followed by six months of ageing in French oak barrels. The wine reveals aromas of spices, plum jam, red pepper, and leather notes. The palate is complex, velvety, full, and silky, with pleasant tannins.
Food pairing suggestion: Beef stew.
