When the Álvarez family acquired Vega Sicilia in 1982, it marked the beginning of TEMPOS Vega Sicilia. Since then, the venture has consistently and steadily expanded, introducing wines from various winemaking regions, reaching new consumers globally, and establishing a foundation for a promising and successful future.
The growing conditions in Ribera del Duero are perfect for producing high-quality grapes, thanks to its hot summers, cold winters, and significant altitude. The vineyards at Vega Sicilia are situated at elevations of up to 900 meters above sea level, which facilitates a slow ripening process for the grapes. This gradual ripening enhances the wine’s complexity and depth of flavour, resulting in excellent acidity and structure.
Reserva Especial red wine is timeless, serving as a tribute to tradition. The winery aimed to honour a longstanding Spanish custom by blending vintages to achieve a harmonious balance. Traditionally, a select few Spanish wineries practiced a unique bottling process: each harvest produced two types of wines—one from the current year and another, known as “Reserva Especial,” which had no specific vintage. The Reserva Especial was a blend of wines from the best harvests, representing the most distinctive expression of the winery.
The 2023 Unico Reserva Especial combines the 2009, 2011, and 2012 vintages. Only the finest Unico vintages are used to create this iconic and exceptionally complex wine. It represents a blend of time, virtues, experiences, and emotions that define the distinctive Vega Sicilia style.
