Louis Roederer is one of the world’s most prestigious and luxurious champagne houses, with a legacy spanning over two centuries. Founded in 1776 by Johann-Joseph Krug, a German entrepreneur, the house was sold to Louis Roederer, his cellar master, in 1833. Under Roederer’s visionary leadership, the Champagne house gained a reputation for exceptional quality and innovation.

Louis Roederer was among the first to champion the concept of ‘cuvée’, blending wines from various vineyards to create a superior product, rather than relying on a single vineyard. His pioneering approach, along with strategic exports to Russia and the United States, helped establish the brand’s international acclaim.

In the late 19th century, Roederer’s son, Léon Olry Roederer, took the reins and continued expanding the brand’s reach. He is particularly known for creating the iconic Cristal champagne, originally crafted exclusively for Tsar Alexander II of Russia. Today, Louis Roederer remains a family-owned business, led by Frédéric Rouzaud, the great-grandson of Léon Olry Roederer.
