In 1879, the Real de Asúa brothers arrived in Haro, setting in motion one of the longest-standing histories in the wine world. Originally a trip for health reasons, it led to the establishment of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (C.V.N.E.) in the iconic Barrio de la Estación railway station.
This marked the beginning of a family winery that has expanded over five generations. Today, the winery remains under the same family’s management, producing high-quality, artisanal, and traditional wines that are enjoyed in more than 90 countries.
La Val was founded in 1985, being one of the pioneers in producing Albariño wines. It played a key role in establishing the Rías Baixas appellation in 1988.
La Val exclusively produces wines from its own vineyards, currently spanning over 222 acres (90 hectares). Albariño is crafted from a blend of wine grapes sourced from our Taboxea, Arantei, and Porto vineyards. The grapes are handpicked. Cold maceration for 6 hours at 10oC (50oF). Lightly pressed to obtain the must (pulp). Controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 16oC (60.8oF). Afterwards, the deposits (hazes) are selected for proper blending from the different vineyards.
This Albarino offers a robust Atlantic aroma with notes of fresh herbs and laurel, complemented by subtle floral and citrus fragrances. There’s a pleasing reminder of white fruit compote. On the palate, it delivers concentrated flavour and freshness, filling the mouth with hints of citrus and fruit, culminating in a long-lasting and delightful finish.
Food pairing suggestion: Chicken livers on toast.
