A mysterious and aristocratic, powerful yet elegant, and brilliantly complex Riesling of the highest caliber with an exceptional concentration matched by opulent flavours and a profound minerality. This grand wine exudes a mysterious charm, much like the Mona Lisa’s enigmatic smile — refined, aristocratic, and intriguing.
The Vineyards and Winemaking
The Hermannshöhle vineyard radiates noble elegance, with an incredibly concentrated, rich, and deep minerality.
The vines, some up to 75 years old, grow on a perfect, steep south-facing slope, with soils that are exceptionally mineral-rich, composed of black-grey slate, volcanic eruptive rock, porphyry, and limestone elements. The Rieslings grown here have been regarded as legendary for over 100 years. The site is considered the highest-rated in the entire Nahe region and is among the finest Riesling vineyards in the world.
This magnificent vineyard has shaped generations of our family through the extraordinary quality of its wines.
After careful, selective hand-picking in multiple passes, the grapes are gently pressed and then matured in large oak casks. A maturation period of at least six months on the full lees, followed by another two months on the fine lees, significantly contributes to the wine’s longevity.
Donnhoff Hermannshohle Riesling GG 2023 In The Glass
The Grand Cru from Hermannshöhle is intensely dense and complex, with a surprising energy that raises the question of how this is possible. The bouquet is clear, intense, and complex, with a more concentrated Riesling fruit. On the palate, the Grand Cru is long, intense, and delicate at the same time. The salty note typical of the clay slate soils is prominent. A crystalline wine, infused with a salty freshness — made for eternity and a wine for generations.
