Domaine Lafage is a family-run winery with a history spanning over two centuries. In the 1980s, Jean-Marc, then a young boy, was deeply involved in vineyard work. His passion for winemaking was ignited when his father entrusted him with a batch of the finest Maury grapes. This pivotal moment revealed his true calling as a winemaker.
Jean-Marc, along with his wife Elaine, gained valuable insights into winemaking practices from around the world through experiences in South America, the United States (California), South Africa, and Australia. Upon returning to France, they inherited 36 hectares of family land scattered around Perpignan, Canet, and Maury. They fully assumed control of the entire family estate in 2001.
The Grenache Gris barrels undergo fermentation, with half using whole bunches, one utilizing carbonic maceration, and the last with de-stemmed grapes. Fermentation occurs in open-top 500L barrels, followed by maceration on skins and stalks for 2 weeks post-fermentation. The Muscat and Macabeu also ferment in open-top barrels, with maceration on skins and stalks for 1 week after fermentation. To protect the wine from oxidation, dry ice is used. The wine is then aged in barrels for 6 months. Blending takes place just before bottling, accompanied by light filtration.
This magnificent orange wine boasts a stunning color that complements its eye-catching label. It offers captivating aromas of rose petals, rosehips, vanilla, Earl Grey tea, citron zest, and Pimm’s. The texture is wonderfully silky, featuring ultra-fine tannins and a delightful, evolved vanilla cream character. Made from Grenache Gris grapes macerated on their skins, this wine, if tasted blind, could almost be mistaken for a supple, subtle, and exquisitely complex red Grenache. Beautifully crafted.
