Whilst the first grape variety that comes to mind when thinking about Marlborough is undoubtedly Sauvignon Blanc, this region is also famous for its Pinot Noir. The free-draining, alluvial loams over gravelly sub-soils in the Wairau, Waihopai, and Awatere valleys in Marlborough are perfect for producing wines that are sharp, unique, distinct, and recognised all over the world.
With flavours of black fruit, spice, and undertones of chocolate, Babich Black Label Pinot Noir is 100% estate grown and responsibly produced. A gorgeous wine that exceeds expectations in terms of flavour, complexity, and drinkability.
This red expresses the aromas of dark cherries, wood, and spices, along with nutmeg and fresh herbs. The palate has a lot of volume but is also delicate, with sweet cherry and raspberry flavour and juicy acidity. Savoury leather and soil notes, with soft tannin adding complexity to the texture. The finish is warm with a slight hint of resin.
Food pairing suggestion: Roast quails with figs and walnut sauce.
