The fruit for this wine comes from vineyards situated in both the Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough, planted on a range of soils from alluvial gravels to silty loams. Canopy management techniques such as shoot thinning, leaf plucking, and green harvesting are used to ensure ripe and clean fruit at harvest. The fruit is harvested at night to ensure it arrives at the winery in optimum condition.
Each vineyard block is treated individually, with fruit being harvested only at its peak ripeness. Parcels are processed separately to ensure good blending options. The fruit is de-stemmed, gently pressed, cold settled, and racked before undergoing a cool fermentation to retain its flavor and aromatics. The wine is then racked before blending, fined, filtered, and bottled.
The wine is full of fresh gooseberry and grapefruit notes, with hints of green capsicum and asparagus, along with nettle and bay leaf. It is exceptionally well-made, rounded, with typical characteristics of Marlborough Sauvignon. The finish vibrant and zesty, a perfect summer refreshment if we may!
Food pairing suggestion: grilled squid, asian cuisine.
