In 1888, Anthony Joseph Vidal arrived in New Zealand and quickly recognised the exceptional winemaking potential of Hawke’s Bay. By 1905, he had purchased a former racing stable yard in the region, transforming it into a cellar and winery. This marked the beginning of Vidal’s legacy as one of New Zealand’s pioneering winemakers. His dedication to producing classic, elegant wines continues to inspire the industry today.
Vidal remained a family-owned business until the 1970s, when it was acquired by George Fistonich in 1976. Under Fistonich’s guidance, Vidal has solidified its reputation as a producer of premium wines. The winery’s philosophy emphasises minimal intervention from vineyard to bottle, resulting in award-winning wines that perfectly balance concentration, complexity, and a true sense of place.
Crafted from premium grapes sourced in the renowned Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough, this wine showcases the region’s signature intensity and vibrancy. On the nose, it bursts with powerful aromas of ripe passionfruit and fresh herbs, a hallmark of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is equally captivating, delivering a lively blend of tropical fruit flavours that are both refreshing and rich. This wine embodies the best of Marlborough’s terroir, offering a vibrant, aromatic white that is as distinctive as it is delicious. Ideal for those who appreciate a crisp, tropical-driven wine with a bright, refreshing finish.

I don’t know much about wine, but this Sauvignon Blanc blew me away! It’s so fresh and easy to drink, with a lovely zing to it. For the price, it’s absolutely incredible – I’d happily buy it again.
