Trinca Bolotas Alentejo Red is a bold and expressive Portuguese red wine from Alentejo, a region famous for its warm climate and rich soils. It delivers ripe fruit flavours, smooth tannins, and a hint of spice, making it a fantastic representation of the area’s signature style.
Trinca Bolotas, The Producer
Herdade do Peso, part of the Sogrape Vinhos family, produces Trinca Bolotas. This estate focuses on sustainability and traditional winemaking, honouring Alentejo’s rich viticultural heritage. The wine’s name, Trinca Bolotas, refers to the Iberian black pigs that roam the oak forests, feeding on acorns (“bolotas”). Just as these pigs flourish in Alentejo’s landscape, the vines thrive in the region’s nutrient-rich soils and dry climate, producing wines with depth and character.
Trinca Bolotas, Terroir and Winemaking
Alentejo’s rolling plains, hot summers, and schist and limestone soils create ideal conditions for Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez (Tempranillo), and Trincadeira, the grapes in this blend. Warm days ripen the fruit fully, while cool nights preserve acidity.
The winemakers ferment the wine in stainless steel tanks to retain freshness. Some of the wine ages in French oak barrels, adding spice, vanilla, and complexity, while keeping the vibrant fruit notes intact.
Trinca Bolotas, Tasting Notes
This deep ruby-red wine bursts with aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, layered with cocoa, sweet spices, and earthy undertones. The palate is smooth and balanced, offering juicy dark fruit, subtle vanilla, and black pepper. Silky tannins provide a round, supple texture, while bright acidity adds freshness and vibrancy. The finish is long and satisfying, with hints of spiced oak and dark chocolate.
