Dönnhoff is a prestigious, family-owned winery in Germany’s Nahe region, with a history spanning over 200 years. Now led by Helmut Dönnhoff and his son Cornelius, the estate is renowned for its exceptional Rieslings, grown on steep, volcanic-soil vineyards that provide ideal conditions for the grape. In addition to Riesling, Dönnhoff cultivates Silvaner and Burgunder varieties, including Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir.
The winery is dedicated to traditional, sustainable winemaking, employing wild yeasts and minimal intervention to preserve the purity of its wines. This natural approach results in wines of remarkable depth, complexity, and balance, solidifying Dönnhoff’s reputation as one of Germany’s finest producers.
Donnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinet 2023
A classic, straightforward Kabinett with fine slate aromatics, distinguished by finesse and a lively acidity.
Donnhoff’s oldest vineyard, in family ownership for centuries, is home to the vines for their Leistenberg Kabinett. They grow on a southeast-facing steep slope with grey clay slate soil: the morning sun dries the grapes, while the afternoon sun is less direct. This keeps the grapes healthy and allows them to ripen for an extended period without becoming overripe. The clay slate soil imparts a salty minerality that perfectly balances the delicate residual sweetness — an ideal site for Kabinett wines! (Classified as a Grand Cru).
Following meticulous, selective hand-picking, the grapes are carefully vinified in stainless steel tanks and large oak casks to create a classically off-dry Kabinett from Donnhoff estate.
Donnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett & Food pairing suggestion: A great partner to lightly spiced food, like shrimp tempura with zesty jalapeno sauce.
