Australian wine legend Matthew Jukes joins us for a unique masterclass and wine dinner featuring Swinney, one of the most awarded Australian vineyards since it launched in 2018 and won Australian Vineyard of the Year in 2020.
Swinney has a colossal reputation in Australia, having picked up 99+/100 points over the years from nearly every prominent wine critic globally. Their awards are too numerous to list; however, if you are interested, a PDF about the vineyards and their awards are listed at the bottom of the text. They have just started bringing their wine to the UK, and this tasting is part of their launch to the UK market.
This is going to be more than just a tasting dinner. Matthew Jukes will host a blind masterclass on some of Swinney’s wines vs. some top examples from France (see wines below). This will be followed by a four-course wine dinner paired with the rest of Swinney’s wines, once again hosted by Matthew.
What Matthew Says about Swinney
“When the debut 2018 vintage of Swinney’s Farvie wines was released, I declared this was the finest ever launch of a suite of wines. Five vintages on, the Farvie wines have gained the highest average scores of any I have tasted. I cannot wait to pour and savour these incredible cool climate Aussie wines from all five vintages at our Loki dinner. This will be a groundbreaking event.”
About Swinney
Swinney Vineyards, a family-owned winery on the banks of the Frankland River in Western Australia, has been farming since 1922 and is now run by the fourth generation of the Swinney family. With over 200 hectares of vineyards planted on ironstone gravel hilltops, Swinney is celebrated for producing some of Australia’s finest wines. In 2020, they were awarded ‘Australian Vineyard of the Year,’ with their wines described as “extraordinary and inspiring” by critics.
Their flagship Farvie wines have garnered rave reviews. According to The Australian, the Swinney Farvie Syrah “redefines the variety in the west,” while their Grenache has “emphatically inserted itself into the conversation around the best Grenache wines on the planet.” Matthew Jukes called their 2021 Farvie Mourvèdre “a genuinely unique wine” with “pure silk” texture, and James Halliday awarded the Farvie Frankland River Mourvèdre 99 points, noting its “hypnotic” qualities
