This April, we’re thrilled to host an extraordinary tasting experience! Explore Bordeaux wines, featuring an exceptional selection of mature examples from the region’s top vineyards.

Bordeaux may be the most famous wine region in the world, but with 57 appellations boasting their own microclimates and no grape varieties displayed on their labels, it can be difficult to navigate this expansive region.

Fear not! Loki’s knowledgeable staff has decades of experience between them, and tried numerous bottles to know what’s what.

The tasting will be led by the manager of our city centre venue and Wine Diploma student, Melissa, along with Edgbaston’s manager, Radu, who recently begun his journey to become a Master of Wine. Learn about the history of Bordeaux’s famous châteaux and their winemaking traditions, explore the art of blending, and understand the importance of terroir in creating wines of exceptional quality and complexity.

All wines we are going to try belong to Grand Cru Classé, which represents the pinnacle of Bordeaux excellence.  1855 Bordeaux Classification was established during the 3rd Universal Exhibition in Paris. At Napoleon III’s request, wine brokers ranked Bordeaux châteaux based on wine quality and allocated them into five tiers, with Grand Cru being the top tier. Grand Cru Classé wines express their unique terroir—the combination of soil, climate, and vineyard location. Each château embodies its specific sense of place. The 1855 classification remains largely unchanged, until these days.

There are many fantastic chateaux to choose from, and we’ll be presenting some outstanding examples:

  • Chateau Ferran Blanc
  • Chateau Branaire Ducru 2014
  • Chateau Cantenac Brown 2006
  • Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse 2003
  • Chateau Montrose 2012
  • Chateau Climens 2010

This tasting will be sold on a strictly first-come-first-served basis and is limited to 10 people.

When: Friday, 26th April, 6:00 pm
