Join us at Loki Knowle for our most popular event — Cheese and Wine Tasting! Discover new, intriguing pairings alongside classic duos in a fun and educational Saturday afternoon experience. Loki’s experts will guide you through seven carefully selected wines from their extensive collection, each thoughtfully paired with artisan cheeses from our favourite suppliers.
The wines featured in our tasting are exclusively chosen from Loki’s extensive and thoughtfully curated collection. Our team goes the extra mile — traveling near and far — to ensure only the finest bottles make it to our shelves, guaranteeing our customers an experience that’s both exceptional in quality and value.
At this event, we’ll be presenting seven distinctive wines, each meticulously selected to enhance the flavours of seven artisan cheeses. Over the course of two hours, your taste buds will be treated to a series of expertly paired wines and cheeses sourced from our most trusted suppliers. Led by our knowledgeable host, the tasting will explore the art of pairing, revealing why certain cheeses and wines create a perfect match, while debunking the myth that a single bottle of Port is all you need for a true cheese and wine experience.
Have a look at the example of the pairings we used in the past:
Solear Manzanilla with Idiazabal: this pairing centers on the saltiness of the Idiazabal which will ‘soften’ the sherry.
Touraine Chenonceaux with Five Mile Town goat’s cheese: Touraine used to have a reputation as poor man’s Sancerre, but this is now changing with higher quality standards. The high acid level in the wine cuts through the rich creamy texture of the cheese.
Bogle Chardonnay with Délice de Bourgogne: this pairing is designed to demonstrate how the textures of both cheese and wine can be matched. In this case a very creamy (triple cream) cheese and rich buttery/oaky full-bodied Chardonnay.
Bucci Verdicchio with Comte: the pairing here is using the nutty notes on the finish of the Verdicchio pulling out the nuttiness of the Comte.
Montessu with Dolce Gorgonzola: our favourite chance-encounter cheese & wine pairing: slab of Anderson and Hill’s new Gorgonzola met a staff bottle of the delicious Sardinian red and the match was made. Most of our pairings are well-thought out. This one was by chance! The salty-tang of the cheese amplifies the fruit element of the wine.
Barros 10yr old tawny with Ossau Iraty topped with Serbian cherries: cherry notes from the Port meld into actual cherries in this match. Ossau Iraty is one of the oldest cheeses but in this case is not the key element of the match.
Bob Berton Semillon with Tunworth drizzled with truffle honey: this wine is essentially an Aussie take of Sauternes and is made from shrivelled berries. A tiny drizzle of honey over the cheese to matches the honey notes and sweetness of the wine.
Enjoy a gourmet afternoon that’s all about delighting the senses and expanding your taste horizons!
