Pol Roger - 21/05/2025 - GWA
£ 95.00

An extraordinary evening of vintage Champagne, led by the family behind one of the world’s most iconic houses.

Join us for an exclusive tasting with Martin Heidsieck, sixth-generation member of the Pol Roger family, as we explore the finesse, tradition, and legacy of this legendary Champagne house. This rare opportunity includes a vertical tasting of Pol Roger’s most prestigious cuvée, Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill—comparing the newly released 2015 vintage with the exceptionally rare 1999 Vinothèque, served from magnum (valued at over £1200 per bottle).

In total, we’ll taste seven Champagnes from the Pol Roger portfolio, including non-vintage styles, blanc de blancs, rosé, and vintage wines. Martin will guide the evening with context on each wine and insights into Pol Roger’s winemaking philosophy, vintage decisions, and the house’s historic connection with Sir Winston Churchill.

About Pol Roger

Pol Roger was founded in 1849 in the heart of Épernay, and it’s one of the few top Champagne houses still owned and run by the founding family. Known for its elegant, precise, and long-lived Champagnes, Pol Roger has built a reputation over 175 years for doing things properly—staying loyal to tradition while producing wines of consistently high quality.

One of the most famous fans of Pol Roger was Sir Winston Churchill, who became closely linked with the house. He once called it “the world’s most drinkable address” and developed a strong friendship with Odette Pol-Roger. To honour that connection, Pol Roger created the Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, first released in 1984. It’s only made in exceptional vintages and crafted in the full-bodied, age-worthy style Churchill loved.

In 2024, Pol Roger celebrated its 175th anniversary—a huge milestone for a house that has never strayed far from its roots. They continue to produce wines with incredible balance, structure, and finesse, whether it’s their classic Brut Reserve or their rare prestige cuvée.

About Martin Heidsieck

Martin Heidsieck is part of the sixth generation of the Pol Roger family, and in 2024 became the first family member to work full-time for the brand in the UK. Born in Paris and raised in the heart of Champagne, Martin brings a real insider’s view of the house, shaped by both family history and hands-on experience.

He spent time working at 67 Pall Mall in London—a well-known club for wine professionals and collectors—and has over a decade of experience in the wine trade. Thanks to his background, Martin combines personal connection with expert knowledge, and he’s full of stories, context, and little-known facts about the house, its cuvées, and the world of Champagne.

This tasting is a rare chance to explore Pol Roger’s wines with someone who knows them inside and out—and who has grown up steeped in both the family’s history and its philosophy.
